“You can age, but you don’t have to get old“.
Mimi Kirk is living proof of that. It is this attitude, and her approach to life that I’d love to share with you. A beautiful, and very healthy woman in her 80s, Mimi’s lifestyle is an inspiration to men and women, young and old alike.
Mimi is looking forever forward to life, to adventure and to travel… “It’s an honour and privilege to age“, she says. “to be here with the ones you love, to travel and see the world.“ When asked what excites her right now, Mimi teases us with the possibility of another book… But states simply “ I feel something magical is about to happen. I feel excited“.
Authenticity is key…
She is proud to flaunt her age. To allow her hair to be grey. To be authentic by sharing photos without filters. Mimi admits that “it’s very freeing“. When asked about the ageing body, her confidence and self-love allow her to compliment herself, saying “you look pretty good for your age“ (and she does!). “When I travel to Europe I see a variety of older bodies and they seem very comfortable with themselves. I find that to be sexy – it’s an attitude“.
“Diet is king. So is exercise.” Words that Mimi truly lives by. She wrote seven books during her 70s, educating others and showcasing her vegan lifestyle. As a guest on national television and appearing on numerous magazine covers, she is a shining example that nothing is as valuable as good health, stimulated by constant learning.
Staying relevant...
Mimi admits she has never suffered that feeling of “invisibility“. Perhaps because rather than being consumed by appearance, she has kept herself relevant and busy by concentrating on her health from within, and her quest to inspire others to do the same through her books, such as “The Ultimate Book of Modern Juicing”. Her guide, for those committed to a long healthy lifestyle, has changed both her life and that of many others.
By staying relevant and moving forward in life, Mimi remains “visible“. Others can see and appreciate who she is and what she has to offer. Not only is Mimi healthy and physically active, but it is inspiring to see that she is in a relationship – in love, and being emotionally active. “I met my boyfriend at age 64. We have been together for 19 years. He’s 20 years my junior“ (proving the irrelevance of age as a number).
As for her own inspiration...
I’m also proud to say she calls herself a fan of mine and of SO50... “I think you are opening up so many avenues for those over 50“. Her acknowledgement is a great encouragement. Mimi also loves to watch Iris Apfel on Instagram – “so fun and confident at age 99“.
